Divorce Adjustment Program for Children

3 WEEKENDS OVER 6 WEEKS:

When children experience their parents' separation or divorce, it can be a time when there are many changes and intense feelings like anger, shame, sadness, worry and sometimes even relief. It is also a time when children (and parents!) are often needing added resources and skills to cope with this life transition. Mandy Young, a Psychotherapist, with 24 years of professional experience facilitates the 'Hurt to Hope' Divorce Adjustment group for children between the ages of 8 and 12 years. The children learn important communication, problem-solving and anger-control life skills that stand them in good stead for life, whilst having the entertaining experience of viewing the relationship interactions of a gregarious group of 'Timone-like' meerkats at the Meerkat Magic Valley outside Oudtshoorn. Mandy works together with conservation biologist, Grant McIlrath whose ethical habituation techniques makes it possible for people to observe these animals and learn from them at very close quarters.
